They say "It is both a blessing and a curse to feel everything so very deeply". When I thought of writing my first blog on a particular topic it had to be something related to emotions! I am a very emotional person in nature. I feel things deeply and soon. And no shame in admitting the same. When I was in my teens and early twenties , I was told "don't be so emotional.. you will lose .. people will take advantage of your nature etc etc. However as i grew old i realized being emotional in nature is not a curse .. at all! In fact emotional or not emotional.. be true to yourself.. dont hide or be ashamed of who ever you are! Just be aware of your nature and feelings (Ofcourse you do get mature and intelligent with age and experience .. ha ha ) . Infact there were many instances where due to being real and authentic me and since i am an "Emotional" person in nature, I made wonderful relationships , people opened up to me, I could help some of them to solve atleast some of the problems in life!When I was pursuing my course as a Soft Skills Trainer I came across this wonderful topic called as "Emotional Intelligence" . I was amazed to know that both emotions and intelligence can go hand in hand !So what is "Emotional Intelligence"? It is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically."Emotional intelligence is the key to both personal and professional success".In today's world to be successful personally and professionally one needs to have great interpersonal relationships, good network, great management skills and wonderful leadership qualities. Even if we are in the world of technology and innovation where smart robots can do a lot of work, there is no replacement for human interaction and team work! It is simple.. humans are bound by relationships be it personally or professionally.. if you want to succeed or get ahead or simply get things done ... the key is to manage relationships! This can be easily achieved if you are aware and practice "Emotional Intelligence and Empathy" in our day to day lives.There are five steps to practice the same . According to renowned psychologist Daniel Goleman there is a 5 step mixed model to practice Emotional IntelligenceI would elaborate each point and tips to manage each point in part 2.Keep watching this space for Part 2 of this blog!
