One morning during my morning walk I noticed a women calling out from her 1st floor home – “Watchman, Varshabai aaee hai kay?”Reply from the watchman: Dekha nahi, MadamMadam: Zara dekho na, please; aayegi to bathana; jaldi upar bhej denaI figured out the day had begun with anxiety for this madam. Serventizes had hit her.Are we all not victims of this luxury? Doesn’t your servant run the daily itinerary? Isn’t our day determined by what time the maid arrives for her Kaam? What happens if the maid doesn’t turn up without any information? What happens if the maid informs you she is not coming tomorrow? What happens if the maid informs you she is not coming tomorrow and further for the next two days? What happens if the maid informs you that she is going to her gaon? Our cerebral cortex goes on an overdrive! We align ourselves to a quick change over, re-plan our activities, check if a badli (temporary maid can be arranged, avoid cooking food at home, instead order from outside so that there are fewer vessels to scrub and finally accept that “our house is anyway clean na! How does it matter if the floor is not swept for 2 days?”Lessons learnt:-Maid is the most important person in our life. Maid decides our day. Family activates self-resilience and (un)willingly aligns the priorities with Varshabai. In Team Building Jargon we would term this as “Servant Synergizes Family”.We have tremendous abilities to change our domestic priorities in five minutes. Problem is in the office!Change is constant. Maid keeps Changing. Therefore Changing Maid is Constant! We learn to accept and live with what cannot be changed. So don’t sweep the floor
