India economy is poised to at a growth rate of 7% annually which is the highest among countries across the globe and estimated GDP to grow to $ 3 trillion by 2018-19 and expected to reach above $5 trillion by 2029-30, becoming the 3rd largest economy in the world behind USA and China, gives us to the huge responsibility to think and act to sustain the growth. Few things which we have to initiate and implement starts with skilling and re-skilling the workforce. Student needs to be trained in various skill set according to their passion, ability, and interest considering market requirements is a great challenge as our education process restricts to knowledge consumption.Re-inventing education system by inducting standardized skilling modules will be a hard task for teachers, students and parents (major stakeholder in Indian education), as changes always take time to extract the desired result, in this case, time is a major concern. We can keep blaming the kind of system we follow which will not fetch any desired implication addressing issues and concern pertaining to advancement and sustainability of Indian economy. The very first thing we need to consider is to increase spending on education from a mere 3.8% of GDP to at least 5% which is an average spent by all developing nations including Brazil and Malaysia. Monitoring expenditure effectively to ensure distribution of resources contributes to enhancing propositions as per industry needs to keep our economic growth steady. As per the change in work dynamics, employees need to be re-skilled accordingly ensuring current aspects are met and they are capable to move forward meeting all adequate change in requirements. Any advancement in technology or other streams needs to carefully and effectively convey to employees for fruitfully extracting maximum productivity. With the advent of technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, etc some jobs done by humans may get vanished in the future. Still, the emotional factor, human, will never fade away or rather will have an enormous boost or need.Predicting skill needs for the future is not an easy task, as the work environment keeps changing every 10 years. Our education system or any support system has not developed to a state where they can adapt to such changes happens in a short span of time. Even though basic skilling is possible, which needs to be answered from a very early stage of education or rather along with education to create expected change.Communication is the most required skill set along with creativity, decision making, emotional intelligence, etc expecting to play a major role in constructing professional work culture. “Education changed Thump Impression to Signature, Technology changed Signature to Thump Impression.” The change sounds to be insignificant, but the reality is very significant. We should create such an environment where skilling and re-skilling can be done with proper guidance and importance. Other than business aspects, this is required to fulfill long term sustainability in workforce, culture, and environment. Realisation of exact requirement leads the way towards a bright and prosperous future. Shijin SreekumarSkill Enhancement Specialist
