Yes! You read it right. There is no mistake in the caption. Read on further to unravel the mystery.There are thousands of methods to make people happy, trouble is, which one to choose.There are only two ways of becoming unhappy, as Eckhart Tolle, the author of “Power of Now” puts it;
- When we don’t get what we want.
- When we get what we want!
Let’s ponder overt it……….Isn’t it?! We get umpteen numbers of examples just by looking at our own lives!For example, buying a new car - that too- for the first time, brings immense happiness. Now, as the car enters office parking lot, a kind of despondency descends by the sight of ‘big and beautiful’ cars all around!So, it is prudent to deal with these two things causing unhappiness rather than getting lost in thousands of choices towards being happy!Organisations devise many methods to keep their employees happy, like innovative pay scales, increments, position, titles and entitlements. But each one of those efforts lead to unhappiness down the lane as Eckhart Tolle says.Happiness never depends on external things. These external things definitely provide pleasure and good experiences.Happiness is state of being. When we discover that state of being, it leads to enhanced pleasure and experience from all those external things!So the entire effort should be towards discovering the state of being, which is nothing but training people to do things out of happiness rather than for happiness.
This way, the time, effort and money spent by HR will result in highly productive organisation. It definitely helps in building happy community - happy employees, happy stake holders, happy customers and more importantly HAPPY HR guys & gals!
Meditation or mindfulness (more fashionable term these days) is the way.There are thousands and thousands of methods which are in vogue. However, in the organisational set up, it is prudent to go for a method which is acceptable to everyone - A method which does not interfere with various customs, culture and traditions of the employees.Last but not the least, the method should be easy to learn and adopt into day to day activities of life.Does such a wonderful training method of meditation exist?
