Why some companies’ growth trajectory is better than the rest?While there are many skills and characteristics which are required for a steep growth trajectory of an organization, the one characteristic that stands out is OWNERSHIP.What is OwnershipThe dictionary meaning of ownership is “the act, state or right of possessing something.” When there is a talk about ownership at workplaces, it essentially mean owning a responsibility, in a manner as if it is no one else’s but your responsibility only.You care about each action and the resultant outcome in a manner as if you own the company.You don’t pass the buck and don’t offer excuses in case of failures. Why OwnershipWith the sense of ownership you earn the trust of the management which is the key ingredient to climb the ladder of success faster than others. You become an indispensable part, the stepping stone in the journey of the company’s success.An organization is just as efficient as its employees. If there is a large set of employees who feel a strong sense of ownership within the company, then it is very likely that the company will perform exceptionally well. This mantra is true not only for the corporate world but for other organizations too like Govt. Political, Social, Education etc. How Accountability is different from OwnershipAlthough accountability is very close to ownership when it comes to accomplishing a task, there is an underlying difference in its wholeness.A person having the sense of accountability has his energies directed towards the task in hand while a person with the sense of ownership will try and go beyond the task in hand and think of the company’s success as a whole, even beyond his mandate.Ownership is not displayed but felt and it brings cascading effects in the organization.So it becomes very crucial for any organization to develop a culture of ownership, in order to be a leader and achieve its vision.
