Guru is a Sanskrit word for mentor, master, teacher, guide or an expert. If we break the word Guru in two parts, then it is Gu and ru. Gu means darkness and ru means removal of darkness. Hence Guru means a person who removes the darkness from our lives and takes us towards light (knowledge).
Why it is important to have a guru in your life? Having a guru can provide you a great base support, keep you always grounded and most importantly will help you remain self-aware throughout your life. A guru can help you find answers to all the possible challenges in your life. A guru is the only person who will push you towards your goals and helps you develop systems that will help in achieving your goals. A guru actually acts like a bridge between you and your goals.
But who should be your guru? Your guru should be someone who is senior to you in terms of knowledge, experience and skills. Guru should be someone whom you can easily connect with, can trust and rely on. Guru should be someone who can give you “The Push” – that is required to keep moving in life.
Some may think that only weak people need guru but having a guru is not a sign of weakness. It shows you are smart enough and are driven enough to succeed. One cannot succeed without a guru in life. Take name of any great personality, they also have had guru in their life. Hence it is indispensable to have a guru in your life.
If you are not having a guru, then do identify one and start moving in life.
Today on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, I dedicate this article to my gurus and all the gurus in the world.
