Just I was leisurely lying on recliner on a lazy Sunday morning and chatting with my Dad, my son approached with his broken Cricket Bat. We could see tears in his eyes. I immediately said don't worry I will get you a new one. Listening this, the tears rolled faster. By that time he was already in my dad's lap. But, could hear some whispers between grandpa and grand son. I could not understand what exactly was happening. To my surprise in no time he came along with old newspaper, Fevicol, Fevistick , bundle of thread, polish paper and a small hammer.. I wondered what he was doing or rather what he wanted me and my Dad (his grandfather) to do. It was now time for me to get up from recliner and need to do something. He hurriedly went to kitchen to fetch some water. I could see some strange look in my dad's eyes. I fearfully asked him the reason. He just said , so easily you said ' Don't worry I will get a new bat for you'. You didn't realize that this bat was his first one and he was attached to it. Is Replacing this bat with new one real solution? No I said.... Dad said learn to repair the things and replace if really needed. The trio fixed the bat and could see priceless smile and happiness on my Son's face. Later I really realized my son and my dad really gave me important lesson of life.Later, I thought a bit on the incident. Practically too, we tend to replace and not repair. May it be in professional environment or personal life. Repairing of relations is more much needed now. Similarly, in organisations, Low Productive employees can be repaired by giving mentoring, coaching, training. This can boost employee's productivity. Giving pink slips or asking employees to go is not the solution to it. Replacing such employees with new employees involves huge cost . Instead repairing is easy, economical and also leads to retaining employees.Hence, i would suggest everyone a mantra ' Repair Over Replace...'. Think over....#RepairOverReplace(https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/repair-instead-replace-amit-dixit-1/)Regards, Amit Dixit.
