Tips for Trainers Episode #1Idealistic, theoretical and philosophical wisdom on one hand is all good. However, if all that doesn’t translate in a simple step by step instructions that anyone can follow, as a common practise, it’s all waste. There are so many challenges that trainers come across. Some they recognise and some they simply assume as part of the process. One possibly can’t list all of them. Hence based on general observation and common complaints I have seen; I present the following pointers.#1 Solid Preparation:For anything to be successful one needs plenty of preparations. There are NO Shortcuts. Often people ask a question how much is plenty?Since this is Tips, let’s take a number. The exact figure will be different as per various conditions. So keeping it simple follow the presented formula and you will have achieved the adequate preparations. For example, you plan a 4-hour session. So, for every 1 hour of your presentation / session, spend at least 8 to 10 hours in outlining, researching, documenting preparing and practising the presentation. That will total say 40 hours of solid work. At least. Remember you can continue practising beyond the 40 hours limit and more you practise better for you.#2 Length of Content:When you are implementing the tip #1, you will be wise to incorporate tip # 2 together. This is sometimes tricky. Let me simplify. The trick is ‘planning’ and producing lesser content then what you expect/imagine can be covered in a particular time. At the same time, you should be prepared for some more as it might happen at times that for some reason the presentation was on fast forward mode you got nervous and rushed through. The key will be the planned lesser content you include should be so concise and straight to the point that it matters.Once again, what should be exact formula will depend on circumstance. You can use the following tip to start at a point and then fine tune it to your specific needs. For every 1 hours of your presentation, prepare content worth between 45 to 50 minutes.#3 End on Time:Initially it will be difficult to maintain a strict schedule as per announced times. Till such time you have control over it, I suggest that no matter what happens, do END your session as per original schedule.Do whatever you have to. Skip, jump or rush a section or two. For such eventuality, have a backup presentation that is shorter/smaller and you can switch to it. Remember, there can be several reasons why you started late. Never end late whatever you are doing as your participants won’t want to miss their next engagement. Even if the next thing is simply going home and sleeping, everyone would want to do that as per original plan.If you look at the importance of the 3 tips shared today, you will that each of them individually don’t make too much of sense but together its part of a bigger plan. More tips in next Episode. In the meantime, if you have questions, do post in the comments and will answer as soon as possible.Keep watching this spaceHemant Desai Presents Want to live like a King tomorrow?
